Without going out my door
I can know all things on earth.
Without looking out my window
I can know the ways of heaven.
The Tao Te Ching
Everyday people are straying from the church and going back to God.
God requires no synagogue-except in the heart.
God has no religion.
If going away is what it is to be a monk then coming back really really is what it is to be a Buddha. But surely you can only really come back if you've really gone away?
Be humble, for you are made of of dung. Be noble, for you are made of stars.
Regard this fleeting world like this:
Like stars fading and vanishing at dawn,
like bubbles on a fast moving stream,
like morning dewdrops evaporating on blades of grass,
like a candle flickering in a strong wind,
echoes, mirages, and phantoms, hallucinations,
and like dream
Things are not what they seem to be, nor are they otherwise.
It is not a matter of faith.
It is a matter of practice.
Thich Nhat Hanh
Your own self is your ultimate teacher. The outer teacher is merely a milestone. It is only your inner teacher that will walk with you to the goal, for he is the goal.
